It’s a popular Chinese-style beef stir-fry on the Panda Express menu. Strips of Angus sirloin steak, white onion chunks, asparagus (green beans in some locations), and juicy white mushrooms make up the dish.

Soy sauce, rice wine, and kecap manis are among the sauce’s core Asian ingredients (for slight sweetness). Everything is wok-fried over high heat until the beef and vegetables are very soft and coated in the delicious sauce.

Panda Express Shanghai Angus Steak is a newer addition to the menu than the majority of the recipes on the site. It was introduced a few years ago to offer some diversity to the menu’s beef selections, which were previously confined to Beef and Broccoli and Beijing Beef. This meal, like Beef and Broccoli, is a healthier option than the Orange Chicken’s younger sister Beijing Beef on the menu.

Recipe variations and substitutions:

  • Increase the amount of vegetables: Make it healthier by adding carrots, green beans, broccoli, snow peas, cauliflower, bell peppers, and a handful of spinach or kale. This recipe is also delicious with zucchini, yellow squash, or baby corn.
  • Use other meats: this dish works well with strips of pig or chicken thighs and breasts. Another alternative is to utilize seafood; the sauce and veggie combination goes well with shrimp. You may prepare some salmon or scallops and serve them with the tasty sauce and vegetables.
  • Make it spicy: for a hot version, add diced and deseeded red chili peppers at the end. Add a tablespoon or two of sweet chili sauce if desired.
  • Make it vegetarian: use vegan meat replacements or by increasing the number of mushrooms to provide a meatier flavor without the beef. Make it with tofu; the sauce is very tasty on crispy tofu pieces. Check out my tried-and-true recipe for crispy tofu. The results are fantastic, and you can use this meat substitute in a variety of recipes.

You’ll also need a bottle of Chinese rice wine. If you don’t typically have this on hand, you can substitute cooking sherry, which is a good substitute. The outcomes are still fantastic.

The juicy Angus beef slices complement the asparagus spears well ( cooked to your desired level of tenderness ). Make it saucy, the way my family likes it, and make sure you have plenty of the delicious sauce to pour over your Shanghai Beef and a bed of Panda Express fried rice. Yummy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Wok-seared Angus steak with mushrooms, onion, red bell peppers, and baby broccoli in a flavorful black pepper sauce.

What is in Panda Express steak?

What exactly is the Panda Express Shanghai Angus Steak? It’s a Chinese-inspired beef stir-fry that’s a Panda Express menu regular. Strips of Angus sirloin steak, chunks of white onions, asparagus (green beans in some locations), and juicy white mushrooms comprise the dish.

How long do you cook Angus steak?

For optimal flavor and food safety, we recommend cooking to at least 145°F, which takes about 10-15 minutes. Transfer the steak to the oven and cook for another 4-6 minutes, or until it reaches the desired temperature, after searing it for 3 minutes per side.

Is Angus beef better than regular beef?

Because Angus beef has more marbling, the fat is spread more uniformly, resulting in juicier and more tender meat than ordinary beef. Furthermore, Angus beef contains far more fat and far less lean meat than ordinary beef. So, if you don’t mind a little additional fat in your beef, Angus is the way to go.

Some things were just meant to be together: Big Bird and Mr. Snuffleupagus, peanut butter and jelly, and the color red on a Ferrari are just a few examples. Whether you live in Boston, Bordeaux, or Beijing, you’ve probably sprinkled some pepper on your beef at some point, and it’s a legendary combination.

This Chinese version on peppered steak is one of my favorites because it puts the powerful flavor of black pepper front and center. Black Pepper Beef is a delightful blend of tastes, textures, and colors that are sharply highlighted by the smoldering fire of the crushed peppercorns, with huge savory chunks of beef, sweet onions, and crisp green peppers coated in an oyster sauce glaze.

Every time we go to Panda Express, I order the Panda Express Beef and Broccoli. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed the large number of Panda Express recipes on the blog. While there are many copycat recipes available, Panda Express is by far my most popular copycat source.

There are so many things to love about Panda Express, such as the fact that as you come in, you see trays of fresh entire vegetables that will be cut up and utilized fresh in the delicacies. When we go out for fast food, I think we forget about vegetables, yet it’s so simple to include them at Panda Express.
