This easy, delicious, creamy, chocolaty frosty homemade ice cream is the perfect recipe for a summer treat! It is easy to make in an electric ice cream churn and you will only need 4 ingredients. This would be a great recipe to use as dessert for a cookout, picnic, summer potluck, or just as a nice surprise for your family on a lazy summer day!
Homemade Ice Cream Memories
When I was a child I always loved to see my mama pulling out the old ice cream churn. I loved helping her get everything together, mix up the ice cream ingredients, and get the canister into the tub. Then she would hand it off to my daddy. He would add the ice and salt. It was his job to turn the handle until it got so hard to turn that he couldn’t do it anymore. At that point, we all knew that the ice cream was ready and we could not wait! I still to this day love making homemade ice cream. It brings me that nostalgic feeling of home and family. It also brings great joy to my heart to keep these old memorable traditions going with my children and my grandchildren.
Chocolate Frosty Ice Cream
The first time I ever had this particular delicious chocolaty goodness was years ago at an ice cream social that the school sunshine committee planned for all the school staff. I got the recipe from my sweet friend and co-worker, Angie, who brought it to the social. I have made it many times since then. My family loves it! The recipe usually has 3 ingredients and it is wonderful; but over the years I have added a fourth ingredient that you may want to try. This addition will make your chocolate frosty ice cream extra yummy and chocolaty. If you don’t have any cocoa go ahead with the three ingredients. It will still be wonderful!

Ingredients:
- 1/2 gallon chocolate milk
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 8 oz. carton thawed Cool Whip
- 1 tablespoon cocoa
Directions:
This was something that my mama always did when she made homemade ice cream. Just go right now and put your ice cream dishes in the freezer! You’ll want them very cold so that your frosty ice cream doesn’t melt so quickly. Get out your ice cream freezer. I use a 4 quart. Get your ingredients together. (Yes, someone enjoyed a little bit of the chocolate milk I bought but it was still plenty!) : ) Add your ingredients into the canister and stir it up well using a spoon and then use a whisk. If you have specks of cocoa it’s fine, but mix it the best that you can. Tiny specks will blend in during the freezing process.
Fit the paddle inside, close the lid. If you are using an electric type ice cream freezer churn (like this one), place the canister down in the tub fitting it together, add the ice and rock salt around it up to about half way. Then attach the top mechanism of the freezer and lock it down. Finish by putting more ice and salt up close to the top of the canister. Plug it in, let the freezer work, and wait for it to stop turning.
Now, get those dessert cups out of the freezer and get ready to enjoy your chocolate homemade frosty ice cream. There’s nothing better than an ice cream social with your loves!
