Gale Romance Guide

Before you can get a chance with Gale for a romance scene, you’ll need to make some progress in Baldur’s Gate 3. Also, it’s extremely important to try and make your decisions with his approval in mind. There are many times throughout the story and moments back at the campsite with Gale that can influence his opinion of you. If you have a negative relationship with him, he won’t have any interest in you when it matters.

Gale Approval and Disapproval

Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the most important aspect when it comes to romancing a character. No matter which character you may be aiming for, making sure their approval of you is high should always be step one.

Gale, like all characters has a distinct personality and things he approves of and inversely things he dislikes, so long as you're able to maintain a consistent personality that can appeal to Gale's traits, gaining approval with him should be simple.

Gale is the most morally good member of your party. Any actions that can be viewed as morally good, or in general just acts of heroism, will easily gain favor with him. Inversely, of course, any acts of villainy will be a very easy way to lose approval with him. Gale also has a curious mind and is very intelligent and well-versed in the arcane. Actions of understanding and shared curiosity of this are good as well.

With that said, here's a list of things Gale approves and disapproves of.

Gale Approval List

• General acts of heroism
• Acts of kindness where you gain nothing
• Showing kindness towards animals
• Interest in the arcane and arts
• Avoiding violent solutions
• Giving him magical artifacts to consume

Gale Disapproval List

• Unnecessary violence
• Being cruel and unnecessary
• Acts of stupidity
• Showing judgement to his condition

As long as you denounce evil and act within a socially acceptable manner, Gale should be a good traveling buddy for you.

How to Romance Gale in Act 1

After completing the mainline story quest Rescuing the Druid Halsin and finishing the side quest Save the Refugees, you'll be able to have a celebration in your campsite at the end of the day with a long rest. Now that everyone’s celebrating, talk to Gale and follow these choices below. He’ll start the conversation by saying, "Thank you." Follow these choices:

• I'm sure you're welcome
• I like the sound of 'magical'. What do you have planned?

Then go to your bedroll to speed up the rest of the evening.

You'll share a scene with Gale where he's teaching you how to channel weave. Make sure not to choose any options where you sound disinterested or like you're in a hurry to leave. Be sure to accept Gale's offer to learn how to control the weave and then you'll be given a series of checks, where you can choose the one you're best in. They're relatively low DC at 5 only, but don't worry about being perfect, because Gale won't mind either. Finally, pick these options:

• "Magical." or "You're a good teacher."
• You hold on to the moment. It's a good night for intimacy.
• You picture kissing him.

Gale will be taken aback, very bashful but he'll be approving. He'll send you off to bed without anything more. Although nothing came of tonight, things are still on the right track.

The next time you talk to Gale, he'll talk about Tara, his familiar. Choose options that show interest in Gale and then finally, choose one of the last options:

• Don't stop there. What else do you like about me?

This will set you on the right track to continue pursuing this romance into Act 2.

How to Romance Gale in Act 2

If you haven't already, pursuing Gale's romance in Act 2 will require you to stabilize his Netherese Orb, which you can do by talking to him in intervals during your journey when he requests a magical item from you.

In Act 2, you'll have to talk to Elminster and invite him to your camp. We found Elminster at the front of the Shadow-Cursed Lands. This will just move along Gale's companion quest, which is important for his romance.

The next prompt we got after we completed the Gauntlet of Shar, right before the final battle of Act 2. Head back to your camp and you should find a Mirror Image of Gale in place of where Gale normally is. You'll want to follow it in order to trigger the next scene. You can tell it later or not interested, but so long as you don't rest for the night, you'll still be able to continue to the next scene.

You'll then find Gale sitting in a meadow, where you'll sit beside him. You can pick any of the options for the first three prompts and then you want to select the following:

• "I'm not going anywhere, Gale. I'll be by your side, whatever dawn brings"
• "Lean in for a kiss" or "I'm in love with you too"

You can then pick any of the next options after you share a kiss. Next, Gale will want to show you something. Agree to it and he'll take you to an illusion of Waterdeep. You can choose any of the options for the prompts up until the one where Gale courts you. Select the option:

• "I think that sounds delightful - but I don't see a bed."
• "Show me more. Show me it all."

This will lead to a sex scene with Gale where you'll share a night among the stars - literally.

At any point during the next sequences, you can opt for one of the bottom answers that are along the lines of "I want the real Gale, not any illusions", which will trigger a different scene where Gale summons a bed in the meadow for you. This scene is much more subdued but it doesn't remove you from the romance with Gale.

How to Romance Gale in Act 3

This scene is very missable. After reading "The Annals of Karsus" make sure to speak to Gale in camp before resting for the night and before heading to the Tabernacle per Elminster's request. You can have Gale speak to Elminster, but be sure to not rest for the night or this conversation prompt will disappear.

After reading about Crown of Karsus while inside the vault of the Sorcerous Sundries through the book "The Annals of Karsus", Gale will want to have a chat in camp. Gale will go on about the power of the crown. Pick the following options:

• Close your eyes

Then pick any of the options for the next prompt, followed by:

• "I feel the same. Whatever you need of me, consider it done"
• Kiss him

This will lead to a small scene between you and Gale. Alternatively, if you choose to try and talk Gale down from doing something reckless, you can choose the following choices:

• "This sounds dangerous"
• "I can't, Gale. This is best forgotten. I love you as you are"
• "You're already everything I need you to be"

This will lead to the same scene, but allow some peace of mind for Gale's conquest to become a God. It remains to be said if this leads to a different outcome, but his mind will be made up when he goes to continue his companion quest when you speak to Elminster to head to the Tabernacle. With that, you've successfully completed all the romance scenes with Gale!
