FLUSHING N.Y., October 4, 2022 – The New York Mets today announced that infielder Brett Baty was named the organization’s Minor League Player of the Year and RHP Domnic Hamel was named Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Infielder Jesús Báez and outfielder Dyron Campos were named DSL Complex Players of the Year and RHP Wilson Esterlin was tabbed as the Mets DSL Complex Pitcher of the Year.
Additionally, Collin Hetzler, the Mets Complex Hitting Coordinator was named Mets Minor League Staff Member of the Year and Yezmin Chalas, Coordinator, Dominican Academy's Operations was
named DSL Complex Staff Member of the Year.
The recipients will be honored during a pre-game, on-field ceremony at Citi Field on October 5 prior to New York’s 4:10 p.m. game against the Washington Nationals.
The club will also honor Bobby Floyd, Senior Advisor, Player Development Initiatives prior to the game. Floyd, who has spent 55 years in professional baseball, including 37 with the Mets organization, will retire after the season.

Brett Baty began the 2022 season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (AA) and emerged as one of the top hitters in the Eastern League. The 22-year-old infielder led the Eastern League in batting average (.312), on-base percentage (.406), slugging percentage (.544) and OPS (.950). Baty was named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July after reaching base safely in 21 of 23 contests that month and posting a .365/.435/.688 slashline. Baty led the Eastern League in home runs (eight), RBI (27) and OPS (1.123) during the month of July. The Round Rock, TX native also finished in the top 10 in several other offensive categories in the month including second in hits (35), third in average (.365), fifth in on-base percentage (.435) and sixth in runs (17).
On August 8, Baty was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse and reached base safely in five of his six games with the ball club, including three multi-hit efforts. 11 Days later, the infielder was promoted to the majors and became the fifth player in franchise history to homer on his first major league pitch in the Mets 9-7 victory over the Braves. Baty played in 11 major league games and hit two home runs with five RBI before landing on the 10-Day Injured List on August 29 due to a UCL tear in his right thumb.
Baty finished his minor league campaign leading the organization with a .315/.410/.533 slashline. He led the organization with 76 runs scored and was sixth with 19 homers. He added 22 doubles and 60 RBI in 95 games.

Hamel, 23, led all Mets minor leaguers with 10 wins and 145 strikeouts in his first full season with the Mets organization. The right-hander from Chandler, AZ appeared in 25 games (24 starts) this season, posting a 10-3 record with a 3.25 ERA (43 earned runs/119.0 innings) while holding opposing hitters to a .196 batting average and averaged 10.97 strikeouts per nine innings splitting the season between St. Lucie (Low-A) and Brooklyn (high-A).
In 14 games (13 starts) with St. Lucie, Hamel went 5-2 with a 3.84 ERA (27 earned runs/63.1 innings) and led the team with 71 strikeouts. Hamel was promoted to High-A Brooklyn on July 4 and was a cornerstone in the Cyclones rotation during their runto aSouth Atlantic League Division title. In 11 starts with the Cyclones, Hamel went 5-1 with a 2.59 ERA (16 earned runs/55.2 innings), a 1.08 WHIP, a .180 opponent’s batting average and averaged 11.96 strikeouts per nine innings. The right-hander allowed one or zero runs in six of his 11 starts with the Cyclones including consecutive scoreless starts of 7.0 innings with 17 combined strikeouts in his final two starts of the season.

Báez, 17, had seven home runs and 34 RBI with a .744 OPS in 54 games combined with DSL Mets 1 and DSL Mets 2 in his first professional season. The infielder led DSL Met 2 in home runs (5) and RBI (22). In his first two professional at-bats, Báez belted both a solo home run and a three-run home run on June 6. The Dominican Republic native finished the game going 3-5 with five RBI, three runs and a stolen base. Báez was assigned to DSL Mets 1 on July 13 and reached base safely in 14 of his last 19 games of the season.

Campos, a native of Venezuela, had a .300/.357/.521 slashline in 31 games combined with DSL Mets 1 and DSL Mets 2. The 22-year-old had a stellar month of July batting .347 with a .940 OPS, 26 hits and 16 RBI in 22 games. He was selected as the starting center fielder for the DSL NL All Stars in the DSL All-Star Game. Campos played his final 11 games with FCL Mets and went 2-4 with two home runs, including a grand slam, and six RBI in his Florida Complex League debut on August 5.

Esterlin, 18, signed with the Mets in the winter and instantly emerged as one of the top arms in the DSL for New York. The Dominican right-hander went 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA (11 ER/36.2 IP) with 48 strikeouts in 12 games (five starts). Esterlin allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his 12 outings this season. Over his final seven outings (three starts) of the season, Esterlin pitched to a 2.02 ERA (6 ER/26.2 IP) with 31 strikeouts.
METS MINOR LEAGUE STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR: Collin Hetzler
Collin Hetzler has spent the past two seasons as the organization’s Complex Hitting Coordinator. Prior to serving as the Mets’ Complex Hitting Coordinator, Hetzler served as a hitting trainer and operations manager at Driveline Baseball from 2018-2020. Hetzler played baseball collegiately at both Galveston College (2009-2010) and Houston Baptist University (2011-2012). Hetzler earned a master's degree in finance from Houston Baptist in2017.

He continues to learn, grow and contribute to the culture we want to build.”
DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE COMPLEX STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR: Yezmin Chalas
Yezmin Chalas has worked in the Mets Dominican Summer League Complex since 2003. Chalas began as an English teacher for the Mets’ DSL players and served in that role until 2005 when she transitioned to assisting in complex operations. In 2016, Chalas was promoted to her current role as Coordinator of Dominican Academy of Operations.
“Yezmin is an integral part of what makes our Dominican Academy great,” said Howard. “Along with leading our Dominican Academy Operations, she is a vital contributor to our International Scouting and Player Development programs. We are thankful for her years of service and loyalty with the Mets organization and grateful for all she contributes.”
Bobby Floyd:
Bobby Floyd’s career in professional baseball began in 1964 when he was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as an amateur free agent. Floyd played seven years in the majors with Baltimore (1968 – 1970) and the Kansas City Royals (1970-1974). After coaching stints with the Royals and Mariners organizations, Floyd joined the Mets organization in 1986 and has served in a variety of capacities. Floyd spent eight seasons as a minor league manager at various levels within the organization including Kingsport (R) from 1986-1988, Norfolk (AAA) from 2002-2003 and the Gulf Coast Mets (R) from 2006-2008. From November 29, 1988-2001, Floyd was the Mets minor league field coordinator. Floyd also spent two seasons on the major league coaching staff serving as the infield coach in 2001 and the bench coach in 2004. Since 2009, Floyd has served as a senior advisor for the Mets.
